Nashville on Neopan

Sometime last year, Scott and I picked up an expired roll of Neopan 1600 from a photography shop in Pensacola, FL. It’s been rattling around in the bottom of my film drawer for a minute now. I tended to skip over it, since I don’t do a lot of night-time or low-light photography.

When we went to Nashville, TN for a few days in September 2025, the Neopan seemed like a perfect match for Broad Street’s neon lights. One evening while Scott attended a work-related event, I popped the film in my camera and set off alone down Broad Street.

Since the roll expired in 2007, I opted to set my Minolta XG-1 at an ISO of 800. The general rule of thumb is to set your camera to overexpose by one stop for every decade that the film has been expired. (I went a little past this, because I was shooting in such a dark environment.)

The most disappointing part about this series is that I don’t have anymore Neopan. What a fabulous film stock! I’d be addicted to this film if only it hadn’t been discontinued by Fujifilm in 2009.

Hope you enjoyed meandering down Broad Street with me. (And lemme know if you stumble across any Neopan 1600!)
